Bank Robbery Through Underground Tunnel Amazing - VideoClip-Online

German police investigate a daring robbery on a local bank. Authorities believe the suspects got into the vault through a tunnel that they made.

Full story:

On Tuesday German police investigated a bank heist after a tunnel was uncovered leading to a bank vault in Berlin.

According to local police, the suspects broke into the vault via an underground tunnel. The tunnel led to an vault where safe deposit boxes were stored.

The suspects are thought to have rented out a garage under the Volksbank and then spent the better part of the year constructing the tunnel.

[Thomas Neuendorf, Berlin Police Spokesman]:

"The whole thing was built very comprehensively by the robbers. It must have taken up a lot of time. We know that this garage was rented out by the suspects just under a year ago. It is a kind of box that can be locked using a sliding door, so that the suspects could dig the tunnel unobserved. It was all very elaborate. They had to break through reinforced concrete walls so that we assume that the suspects were working on this for weeks, if not months."

[Thomas Neuendorf, Berlin Police Spokesman]:

"The people who were involved in this knew what they were doing, how to build something like this. This was not carried out by amateurs. That we can so far say for sure. Now we will investigate every little detail to get on the trail of the robbers."

According to reports, police were alerted to the burglary on Tuesday morning after a guard saw smoke coming from the safety deposit room.

[Thomas Neuendorf, Berlin Police Spokesman]:

"What was a bit surprising was that in the safe room only one third of the safe boxes had been broken into, as we have now ascertained. So, now we have to ask the question whether the suspects were perhaps disturbed or whether something unexpected happened."

Police were investigating the tunnel interior using a robot before going in to assess the damage. They suspected the burglars wanted to set fire to the tunnel to make it collapse and cover up any evidence.
